— Our Story
The Noto Peninsula Earthquake and Tokuzoji Temple
In January 2024, a major earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula.
Tokuzo-ji Temple, located in Monzen-machi, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, also suffered extensive damage.
The main hall, founded in 1473 during the Muromachi period,
has preserved the Buddhist Dharma for over 500 years through 23 generations.
The wooden statue of Prince Shotoku, associated with the Sengoku warlord Ishida Mitsunari.
These irreplaceable historical treasures suffered great damage due to the earthquake.
So that this history may not be lost.
Tokuzoji Temple has decided to relocate.
This is a step to protect the damaged main hall and cultural assets,
and to pass on 500 years of prayer to the next 500 years.

How your donation is used
Your support will be carefully used for the following activities:
Allotment for relocation expenses
The funds will be used for land and building maintenance, relocation, and registration procedures associated with the move to a new location. These efforts will lay the foundation for Tokuzo-ji Temple, which has stood for 500 years, to continue as a place of prayer for generations to come.
Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Properties
The funds will be used for the preservation, restoration, and safe relocation to a new site of tangible cultural properties, including the wooden statue of Prince Shotoku, which has a connection to Ishida Mitsunari. We will connect this historical heritage, preserved for over 400 years, to the next 500 years.
Maintaining temple operations
It supports the daily operations of the temple, the maintenance of memorial services, and connections with parishioners, followers, and the local community. It will serve as the foundation for the temple to continue its activities as an "open temple" even after its relocation.
Activities for preserving Buddhist culture
We support activities that connect tradition to the present, such as offering opportunities for Buddhist ordination, creating places for learning about Buddhism, and addressing the issue of abandoned temples.
